School Expenses

School expenses have been significantly reduced in fiscal year 2010. Enrollees’ payments for the first year also have been reduced.

1) Admission Fee; 
Graduates of Hosei University: Free 
Graduates of other universities: 140,000 yen (reduced from 270,000 yen).
2) Tuition; Tuitions of science courses and doctor's courses of all graduate schools will be reduced. The Graduate School of Hosei University provides the scholarship for students of doctor's course (stipend: half the amount of tuition).
3) Facilities Fee; Reduced to about one-half or one-third of facilities fees in previous years.

School expenses are as listed below. Settle your payment semiannually, which is to pay at the end of April for the 1st semester and at the end of September for the 2nd semester. Your initial semiannual payment, however, should be made at the time of your enrollment in March.

*In addition to the above, other academic fees will cost from 2,500 to 6000 yen depending on majors.
*Matriculation fee on a year's leave: 100,000 yen; Matriculation fee on half-year leave: 50,000 yen.
*For enrollees of master's course, ”Graduates of Hosei University" refers to graduates of departments of Hosei University, and for enrollees of doctor's course, it refers to graduates of master's course of the Graduate School of Hosei University. "Graduates of Other Universities" refers to students other than ”Graduates of Hosei University".
*The admission fees of transfer students are those of the year when they transferred to Hosei University. Tuitions, facilities fee and laboratory fee are the amounts applied to the year when they transferred to Hosei University.

School Expenses Loan

Graduate School of Hosei University offers "school expenses loan" with lower rates of affiliated banks: Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd., and Mizuho Bank, Ltd. For detailed information, please contact administrative department of Graduate School of Hosei University or each bank.

The following scholarships are available in our university.

Scholarship for Graduate Students at Hosei University

This is our own scholarship system. This scholarship is given to a student with excellent academic record and good personality, and has difficulty to finance his or her academic costs.

Annual Stipend 200,000 yen

Hosei University 100th Year Anniversary Scholarship

Application period is the same with Scholarship for Graduate Students at Hosei University. This scholarship is given to a student with excellent academic record and good personality, and has difficulty to finance his or her academic costs.

Annual Stipend 450,000 yen (Graduate School of Engineering and Design)

Scholarships for Graduate Students of Master's Course at Hosei University (tentative name)

Since fiscal year 2010, we have offered new scholarship to students of doctor's course, except for government-sponsored international students, students sent from their place of works, and students of Graduate School of Regional Policy.

Annual Stipend 300,000 yen (science course)

* Stipend is granted up to three years (shortest term of school attendance)

Scholarship of Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)

Scholarship of JASSO is loan-type, therefore scholarship students have obligation of repayment. Apply with future repayment plan in mind.

Eligibility Students of graduate schools (master's and doctor's courses)
Except for
(1)Students stay in school exceeding standard term of school attendance
(2)Those exceeding a certain income level
(3)Those who have regular jobs affecting research activities at graduate school, or part-time jobs over 21 hours a week and students sent from their place of works.

Category Two Loans Students can select one from the following amounts: 50,000, 80,000, 100,000, 130,000 or 150,000 yen.

Scholarships of Local Governments and Private Foundations

Other scholarships are provided by local governments and private foundations, for example, The Japan Securities Scholarship Foundations.

Scholarships for International Students

Other scholarships are provided for students whose nationality is other than Japanese, for example, Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students by JASSO.
